Notetaking on Camera Techniques

INTERVIEWING:
• What seven items should you bring with you when you are shooting an interview?

Camera; Mini DV Camera; VHS Camera
Tape; Mini Dv Tape; VHS Tape
Tripod; No Tripod == Bad Techniques
Microphone
Headphones;make sure mic works; anything you hear will turn up on tape
Power Source; AC Adaptor or Battery
Light Source; Camera Light; Floor Light; Natural Lighting

• Shooting into a light source =Going to cause a silhouette

• Where do you want your light source?
Light should always be behind the camera

• On what object should you focus the camera?


• No tripod=Bad; The Tripod is my friend; no tripod is for ameuters or super pros that are trying for specific shot

Wide Shot - Show Setting & Surroundings establish location.

Medium Shot - Less Setting & More Detail focus on specific area.

Tight Shot (Close Up) - Lots of Detail that you can't get from a Medium/Wide shot.

CAMERA MOVEMENTS: Camera should only move for a specific reason
• Tilt- Moves camera up and down to follow movement and emphasize height

• Pan- Moves camera left and right, for movement to follow something you could do it to establish how big a room is

• Zoom- Magnifies picture, magnifies any jaring movements

• Dolly- Shot on wheels
